Money can’t buy you happiness, but creating a plan, acting on it and achieving your goals can. All you need is to be clear about your goals, follow some basic principles and regularly review your situation. Here are 5 steps to ensure you achieve financial happiness.

  1. Create a roadmap for the future.

Figure out where you want to be and what you want to be doing in 3 months, 12 months, 3 years etc. Be specific about what your lifestyle looks like.

  2. Identify how you can make that happen

What do you need to help make your roadmap a reality? For example, if you want to travel do you need a passport? To start a new hobby do you need to save for equipment and learn new skills?

  3. Create an action plan

How are you going to implement the things that will help you get there? Write a to-do list, talk to friends and family and start to get ready to action it.

  4. Implement your action plan

Make it happen! Go get your passport, organise your savings, get a piggy bank or do whatever it is you need to do to get where you want to be.

  5. Enjoy the results!

Now you’ve done the hard work, enjoy what you’ve accomplished. Go on your holiday, buy that car! You worked really hard to get there so make sure you enjoy it.

Remember to keep it simple and achievable – complex plans are a lot harder to accomplish. When done the right way, planning can be fun and give you direction and the confidence to enjoy life.
